What We Tell Customers Who Are Still Unsure About Solar

When we visit people’s rooftops, homes, shops, small businesses, they often look interested but unsure. These are the questions they ask again and again.

These are the concerns with easy solutions. Loans and subsidies are increasingly available. If you qualify for schemes like the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, subsidy amounts can go up to Rs78,000 for a 3 kW setup. That brings down your initial bill significantly.

What about loans? Banks don’t want to give solar loans, especially to small businesses.

You’re not wrong. MSMEs often struggle to get loans due to strict rules.

But things are improving. New credit lines by world banks and concessional financing are making a difference. And for homes, many banks offer green loans under govt schemes.

But many installers now handle the entire approval process including net metering paperwork, on your behalf. Just make sure you choose one  wisely.

Won’t I still pay full price for electricity?

Not at all. With net metering, extra power your system generates gets sent to the grid and you earn credit. That credit offsets energy you draw later. It does depend on your state’s rules, but it’s real saving.

Isn’t it a hassle to clean panels regularly?

Surprisingly no, rain in most places does half the job during monsoon. In dusty areas, cleaning every 4–6 weeks works fine. That small effort keeps your system performing well long term.

What if grid issues disrupt my solar?

There are growing pains. In Kerala, the DISCOM reported financial strain from rooftop solar markets and may need batteries for systems above 3 kW to stabilize night usage costs.

As a homeowner, this affects you less if you’re using solar for your daytime needs. But it’s wise to discuss grid behavior in your area with your installer.

Is solar only for tech-savvy people?

Not anymore. A big barrier is simply lack of trusted information.

That's why we talk plainly with people, show them live data, and try to set realistic expectations. Trust grows when information is honest and upfront.

Will my neighbours even know what’s happening behind the scenes?

Most people wait until someone they know adds solar before they consider it. Social proof matters.

That’s why we welcome anyone with solar to talk with their neighbours. When one household installs reliable solar, often the next one follows.

Are installers properly trained?

Actually, there’s a shortage of skilled labour in many regions. One study found 90% acknowledge the need for skilled installers while nearly half said quality installers were not available nearby. That’s why choosing a vendor who trains their own crew matters.

Will solar screw up my property or future plans?

No. Systems are modular. If you plan to expand (like buying an EV or adding appliances), systems can be sized or upgraded accordingly. And designs are non-invasive, you can remove panels or adjust layout later.

Quick recap of what we tell unsure customers:

Yes, solar costs money upfront, but subsidies and loans are there to reduce pressure.

You can save money, often recovering cost in a few years.

Cleaning panels is simple, grid delays are manageable with net metering, and installer quality matters more than fancy tech.

Most issues, fear of hassle, costs, trust can be resolved with honest guidance.

Going solar is not about being trendy.

It’s about being grounded. It’s about small risks today for real savings and comfort tomorrow.
